WHAT IS THE VISION FOR OUR WORSHIP MINISTRY AT SOUTH SUBURBAN?
Public worship exists to glorify God and lead the people of God into joyful, satisfying and heartfelt worship.
William Temple wrote: "To worship is to quicken the conscience by the Holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God." This is all encompassing, as we devote our lives to our Lord Jesus Christ, and live out the Truth as stated in Matt 22:37, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind."
In our Sunday Morning public worship experience, we strive to first "go vertical", in expressing our love and devotion and thanksgiving in our hearts to God. We strive to be God-glorifying, Christ-exalting, Spirit-filled, and Word- centered. Scriptures command us in the Old Testament and New Testament to worship God, to devote our lives fully to him, and when gathering together to express our worship to Him through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. (Col 3:16)
We desire for our worship services to be intentional, well thought out, purposeful, and engaging, yet uplifting. We also want to speak to peoples' hearts, by the use of many "heart languages". We strive to use various elements in our worship services that draw us closer to the Lord, and open our hearts and minds to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us. Songs are a significant part of our worship services, but also important are the use of scripture readings, responsive readings, prayers, ministry moments, testimonies. All are components which can bring honor and glory to God, can proclaim His Name, and can edify the Body. As we worship our Creator and Redeemer, we then have the opportunity to joyfully respond as we lift our voices in praise, as we hear the Word of God being proclaimed.
